Is Java EE Relevant to the Cloud?

‘Platform as a service has gained in popularity over the past two years, with many vendors talking about having to rewrite the middleware handbook and discard existing investments such as Java EE. However, as this session demonstrates, reality is quite different. Not only does Java EE have a critical role to play in Java-based PaaS but it can also be used in cloud middleware for other languages, such as Ruby.

As the session shows, the definition of PaaS today is of very little value to real-world applications, beyond simplistic examples. Therefore, the presentation defines enterprise PaaS and discusses how it is relevant to the majority of today’s cloud deployments. It then shows that Java EE 6 and beyond are the obvious building blocks.
